Crystals that grow in the kiln

There are no crystals in the jar — they form during firing. The cooling schedule decides their shape and size.

Colours

Prices will be added as soon as the first shipment arrives in Tbilisi. Until then you can add items to your list and send it — we will let you know the price.

The tiles are fired samples from Chrysanthos. The final colour depends on the clay, the number of coats and the firing — we suggest trying a test tile first. Tap a size to add it to your list, tap again to remove it; change the quantity with − / +. Tap a colour to open its page. No payment is taken on the site.

Firing range

Cone 4 (approx. 1190°C) – Cone 8 (approx. 1260°C)

The cone is the main measure of firing; °C is approximate and depends on the heating rate. What is a cone?

Food safety

Not food safe. The glaze may craze — use only on the outside of functional ware.

When is a piece food safe?

How to use

Contains metal compounds. Shake or stir well before use; thin with clean water if needed. Brush 3–4 coats onto mid-fire bisque, letting each coat dry completely. There are no crystals in this glaze — they form during firing. For the biggest crystals, use a controlled firing and cooling schedule: different cooling times give crystals of different shapes and sizes, and no two firings are alike. The glaze runs strongly — leave a 3 cm margin between the glaze and the foot and protect kiln shelves with kiln wash; brushing white Underglaze or One Stroke in that band reduces running. Colours bleed where they touch; the colours of this series do not intermix.

Safety

Do not spray or sand dry glaze — this can release silica dust. Avoid contact with eyes and prolonged skin contact. Wash hands after use. Do not pour glaze or rinse water down the drain. If swallowed, rinse the mouth; if you feel unwell, see a doctor. Keep out of reach of children.
